BNB Chain’s New EVM Layer-1 Explained

⏱️ 5 min de lecture

BNB Chain has outlined plans for a new high-performance EVM layer-1 blockchain designed to improve decentralized trading and support artificial intelligence applications. The proposed network will use BNB as its only gas and staking token, a decision backed by Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao.

The ambition is ambitious: make on-chain trading feel closer to the speed and convenience of major centralized exchanges while preserving the openness and self-custody benefits of decentralized finance. The project could also give BNB a more clearly defined role as the native asset powering a purpose-built blockchain rather than operating across multiple competing networks.

What Is BNB Chain’s New EVM Layer-1?

BNB Chain is already an Ethereum-compatible blockchain, meaning it uses the Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM. In simple terms, an EVM is the software environment that allows developers to build applications and transfer assets using familiar Ethereum tools.

The proposed layer-1 would apply the EVM model to a new, higher-performance BNB Chain network. The company says its goals include greater transaction throughput, faster finality, and infrastructure optimized for decentralized exchanges and AI-powered tools.

“Finality” refers to the point when a transaction is considered permanently recorded. Faster finality can make trading apps more responsive because users do not need to wait as long to know that a trade or transfer has been confirmed.

Why BNB Will Be the Sole Token

The network’s single-token design is central to the announcement. BNB will reportedly serve as the native gas token, allowing users to pay for network fees and validators to stake BNB to help secure the blockchain.

A single-token system can offer several advantages:

  • Simpler user experience: People do not need to hold multiple assets to pay different fees across BNB ecosystems.
  • Unified liquidity: Trading pairs and applications can be built around a common asset.
  • Clearer token economics: Network demand, fee payments, and staking rewards are connected directly to BNB.

For developers familiar with Ethereum, the EVM compatibility should also make it easier to port existing decentralized applications. Think of it like moving a store from one shopping street to another with the same checkout system: the underlying location changes, but much of the infrastructure remains recognizable.

Targeting Faster Decentralized Trading

BNB Chain has established itself as a major venue for decentralized finance, with a significant share of decentralized exchange activity. Its new layer-1 is intended to narrow the perceived performance gap between on-chain markets and centralized platforms.

Centralized exchanges typically process many orders quickly because they control their own matching engines. Decentralized exchanges operate through smart contracts, blockchain transactions, and a network of liquidity providers. That model can improve transparency and control, but it may also introduce delays, higher fees, or fragmented liquidity.

By optimizing the network for trading, BNB Chain hopes to lower those barriers. Potential improvements include quicker transaction confirmation, more efficient order processing, and better support for liquidity providers. These features could benefit market makers, aggregators, and users who want to swap tokens without relying on a centralized custodian.

Investors and active traders can explore BNB through established platforms such as Kraken or Bitvavo, depending on their location and regulatory status. Trading on a regulated, reputable exchange remains safer than leaving funds on an unfamiliar platform.

How AI Could Fit Into the Blockchain

Artificial intelligence is another focus of the proposed network. BNB Chain has positioned itself as supporting AI applications that combine blockchain-based verification with intelligent data analysis or automation.

Possible use cases include AI agents that manage on-chain transactions, decentralized apps that personalize user services, and trading tools that evaluate market data in real time. Blockchain can provide an auditable record of AI-generated actions, while AI can help interpret complex on-chain activity.

However, a stated plan does not guarantee immediate results. AI applications still face challenges involving data quality, computing costs, privacy, security, and regulatory oversight. The new layer-1 will need working infrastructure, developer adoption, and credible applications before its AI ambitions can be assessed.

What CZ’s Backing Means for BNB

Changpeng Zhao’s support adds attention to the project because he helped build Binance into one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency businesses. His involvement may reassure some users and developers, but it also raises questions about decentralization and concentration.

BNB is already used across BNB Smart Chain, BNB Beacon Chain, decentralized finance, payments, and the broader Binance ecosystem. Making it the sole token of the new network could reinforce that position by consolidating utility around one asset.

The key question is whether users will value the unified experience enough to migrate activity. A strong token is not automatically a strong blockchain. Reliability, security, decentralization, developer tools, and genuine user demand must accompany the token’s utility.

Security and Implementation Remain Crucial

Any high-performance blockchain must balance speed with security. Faster blocks can process more transactions, but they may also reduce the time validators have to detect and challenge invalid activity. Layer-1 systems commonly use different approaches to manage this trade-off.

Users with significant BNB holdings should protect their private keys with a hardware wallet. Devices such as those available through Ledger keep signing credentials offline, making them less exposed to online attacks.

The network’s launch timetable, governance model, validator distribution, fee structure, and audit results will determine how credible the architecture is. Investors should avoid treating the announcement as proof of future adoption and monitor technical documentation and testnet performance.

Why This BNB Chain Announcement Matters

BNB Chain’s proposed EVM layer-1 represents a strategic attempt to specialize the network around high-speed decentralized trading and AI. Using BNB as the sole native token gives the ecosystem a clearer focus and could align the success of the chain with demand for BNB.

The decisive test will be whether it delivers measurable improvements without compromising decentralization or security. For now, the announcement signals direction rather than completion. Follow official technical releases, independent audits, testnet results, and mainnet deployment details before committing capital.
