Bitmine’s Ethereum Treasury Surpasses 6 Million ETH

⏱️ 4 min de lecture

Bitmine Immersion Technologies has grown its Ethereum treasury to approximately 6,041,481 ETH, according to its latest disclosure dated October 18. The company also acquired another 12,535 ETH during the preceding week.

That puts Bitmine’s reported holdings above six million coins, an extraordinary amount for a publicly traded company. By its own calculations, the position represents roughly 4.9% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. More importantly for Ethereum users, the company says over five million of those tokens are staked.

Why Bitmine’s Ethereum Treasury Matters

Bitmine’s strategy is significant because it turns Ethereum into a central part of a company’s balance sheet rather than simply an investment held alongside cash and other assets. For investors, that creates both opportunities and risks: greater exposure to Ethereum’s potential growth, but also much greater sensitivity to ETH price swings.

A crypto treasury is essentially a company’s reserve of digital assets. Companies buy assets for different reasons. Some expect their prices to rise, while others plan to earn rewards by staking. A treasury strategy can therefore combine long-term speculation with income-generating activity.

At more than six million ETH, Bitmine now ranks among the world’s largest institutional Ethereum holders. The company’s weekly purchase also shows that it has been adding to the position rather than treating Ethereum as a short-term trade.

Over Five Million ETH Are reportedly Staked

Staking is the process of locking cryptocurrency to help secure a blockchain network. In return, validators may receive rewards. Ethereum moved from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake in 2022, and staking is now central to how the network verifies transactions.

Bitmine says that more than five million of its ETH are staked. If confirmed, that could provide the company with ongoing validator rewards, although the exact returns depend on network fees, operating performance, and other conditions.

The scale also matters economically. A large staked reserve can strengthen a company’s position by generating potential rewards while demonstrating commitment to Ethereum. But it concentrates risk. Ethereum remains volatile, and changes to staking rules, network activity, or token prices could affect the results.

Understanding the 4.9% Supply Figure

Bitmine estimates that its holdings equal about 4.9% of circulating Ethereum. Circulating supply refers to the number of ETH available in the public market, rather than the theoretical maximum supply.

This figure gives context to the treasury’s size, but it should be treated carefully. A company holding this much ETH does not automatically control that portion of Ethereum’s supply. Staked tokens remain locked under network rules, and ownership is distributed through the company’s treasury structure.

What Ethereum Investors Should Watch Next

The next disclosures from Bitmine could focus on several key areas:

  • Future ETH purchases: Continued buying would reinforce the company’s long-term treasury strategy.
  • Staking performance: Investors will want to know how many rewards Bitmine earns from its staked tokens.
  • Funding sources: Large purchases may involve equity issuance, debt, or other financing methods that affect shareholders.
  • Risk controls: A treasury of this size may require policies for managing volatility and protecting company assets.
  • Network exposure: Changes in Ethereum fees, validator participation, and protocol upgrades could influence the strategy.

Institutional Ownership and Market Implications

Large corporate Ethereum reserves are part of a broader trend of institutional crypto adoption. Companies can use digital assets as strategic holdings, treasury collateral, or sources of staking income. However, adopting crypto also introduces unfamiliar risks, including smart-contract vulnerabilities, custody failures, and extreme price movements.

Investors who participate in this trend should not rely on a treasury company’s reported holdings alone. They should review independent audits, corporate filings, custody arrangements, and details about how the assets are financed. Large balances may be genuine and well managed, but transparency is essential.

For Ethereum itself, a sizable staked position could support network security if the tokens remain actively validating. Corporate demand may also increase if other public companies follow a similar strategy. On the other hand, heavy institutional concentration can make markets more sensitive when large holders buy or sell.

A Major Bet on Ethereum

Bitmine’s move to accumulate more than six million ETH makes its Ethereum treasury one of the most ambitious corporate crypto strategies currently in public view. The reported staking activity could provide rewards while strengthening the company’s exposure to the Ethereum ecosystem.

It is not a risk-free strategy, though. The same scale that creates potential upside also magnifies losses if ETH prices fall. Before acting, readers should evaluate the company’s financial position and custody practices. If they participate, using a reputable platform such as Kraken or Bitvavo may help, while a hardware wallet such as Ledger can provide an additional layer of self-custody.

Bottom line: Bitmine has made Ethereum a defining part of its corporate strategy. Watch its next purchases, staking disclosures, and financial filings carefully, because its six-million-ETH treasury may become an important case study for institutional crypto investment.
